Description of Thorn Cottage
The hamlets of Lowick Green and Lowick Bridge sit at the Southern most tip of Coniston Water in an area of beautiful open countryside. This is rural Cumbria at its best, Lowick being a fine example of a village, hosting an annual agricultural show every September, to include Cumberland wrestling, fell running and hound trails. Ulverston, home to Stan Laurel, is a mere 7 miles away to the South with Coniston itself only 15 minutes drive. The cottage is located across the road from the Farmers Arms, a 14th Century coaching Inn, offering fine food and a real country pub atmosphere with local ales and open fires. Thorn Cottage is a substantial property of great character, evidenced in original floorboards and exposed beams. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous pictures around the house depict its ancient past and the refurbishments in recent times have been done sympathetically and with great care. The cottage is very comfortable and spacious, just the spot for a family get together, whatever time of the year. Please note that due to its age, the house does have a number of small steps here and there and you should be careful to either bend or bump.
